We had such high hopes for this house and soooo many ideas when we first moved in (can't believe it's been 4 years already) and I'm embarrassed to say that we've done nothing, nada, nilch, zero! Well ok, so my wonderful husband finished the basement playroom shortly after we moved in.... and we took the hideous wallpaper off the kitchens walls, but really, that's it. Oh, and twice we've painted the nursery... first pink for our princess and then when the little man came along we went for a more neutral green. Ok, that for sure is it! I swear! After a flooded basement and a leaky (we're talking monsoon in the dining room) front window, I think we've gotten into this funk. Nothing has been done for years. The basement office project has been sitting there, undone, forever. And we still have the front window torn up - no drywall, just the wood frame. Blah. Yuck.
So I've been reading all these DIY blogs (here, here and here) and getting this itch to finish this stuff and make (yes, as in build it myself) new furniture, paint, rearrange, refinish, refurbish, you name it! I'm serious about this! The bathroom wallpaper removal/paint project was started last week (which reminds me, I should be peeling more stupid paper instead of sitting on the comp.... again. I will... later..... I promise) and it's going... I hate peeling wallpaper, it should be a crime to put up such ugly, thick wallpaper. Really. But I'm getting it done.
And I changed out the cabinet hardware in our kitchen from these ugly, builder grade, shiny chrome knobs to a much more appealing antique silver. Huge difference. Musts for the kitchen? A new, BIGGER table that i'm currently searching craigslist for - it has to be just right though and could take a while. A little paint and new rustic farmhouse table top (that I plan to build) and it'll hopefully look something like this one:
Amazing, right? I love it. And I love this woman's blog, she really does some amazing stuff with old, unwanted garage sale furniture. I'm going to be like her when I grow up, you'll see.
Then there's the living room.... hmm, let's see - paint, new entertainment center, coffee table, end table and bookshelf/storage unit (all refurbished or built by muah, I hope :) Lots, lots, lots to do! And then there's the unfinished projects like the basement office, front window, new wood floors and then, once that's all done, I might actually get to have a dining room - a real, grown-up room with nice furniture and dishes! And maybe I'll get to have a real dinner party, not the paper plate/plastic cup/find a place to sit kind of party that we're used to...... one day I WILL be a grown-up!
